Forest Park: General Info
Our purpose for making this page is to obtain new information about this notorious cemetery. We have visited the cemetery and now we are even more anxious to learn more about it. If you don't already know, strange things are known to occur in Forest Park after dark. We went during the day time so we could get some pictures of the place. Others who have visited the park have reported hearing dogs barking and stones being thrown at trees, cameras malfunctioning. Others have said they have seen and heard a little boy playing around the front of the park at night. The park is known for having headless statues. These statues lost their heads back in the 1960's, it was reported that these statues were bleeding. This place stirred so much curiosity that Life magazine decided to do a report on it, although we personally have not been able to find the issue it is in. If anyone knows which issue Forest Park is in please inform us. We are no scholars to the park we are simply making this web page so we can learn for ourselves more about the park and in turn help others out there learn also. If anyone has any information about the park please let us know. We have posted some pictures that we took on our recent trip to the park. We will be updating this web site periodically, as it will get better.
Our first trip to the park:
It took us about 2 hours of searching the Troy area to find Forest Park. We had printed a map offline which was incorrect so this delayed our arrival at the park. We stopped and asked numerous townsfolk. I don't think a lot of the folks like talking about the park as we were giving the "I don't know...umm...yeah I don't know" and another time we asked these kids on the road and they just smiled at us and kept walking. Finally a bum on the road helped us out and led us in the right direction. We arrived at the park about an hour before dusk. It is said that the neighbors will call the police if they see people lurking around there at night, just a warning. As we first walked into the park we saw the mausoleum. We saw a small overgrown graveyard to our right, but there was no sign of the statues. There was a trail leading around back into the woods. We followed this small stream around up a hill to where we seen some more graves and we continued continued for about fifty yards, and then we seen the first headless statues, and twenty feet beyond that is the next statue. It freaked us out at first because we came across these headless statues in the woods. This is where the trip gets weird. I snapped a picture of the headless angel. Then we heard dogs start to bark, and it got very cold, and it felt as though a metal weight was on your chest and it was hard to breathe. We took one more picture and we started to run. As we were running back down the path we heard noises of stones being thrown at the trees next to us, but nothing was hitting us. We ran back out to the front next to the mausoleum. We decided to take another path to the left and it led us right up to the statues. We took a few more pictures and we also noticed that behind us were graves with clothing on them. I believe this is something to do with witchcraft. We looked around some more, and noticed that the paths lead back further into the woods, but we didn't have time to follow them. I think the cemetery occupies 22 acres on 200 acres of land. Check out our picture pages to see all the photos.
